Royal Ballet and Opera – The Tales of Hoffmann – Cinema Screening
Sunday 19th January, 2pm
Cinema Screening
Through the haze of the years, a poet remembers the women he loved. But when it comes to matters of the heart, nothing is as it seems. Particularly when the devil himself is involved…
Journeying back to his school days, Hoffmann relives his childhood romance with Olympia, a model student in every sense. Doomed love follows him into adulthood, where the dancer, Antonia, is taken from him too soon. Meanwhile, the sensual courtesan Giulietta has her own secret agenda. As memory and fantasy becomes increasingly blurred, will Hoffmann find the enigmatic Stella before it is too late? This production is sung in French with English subtitles.

NT Live – MACBETH
Wednesday 5th February, 7pm
Sunday 9th February, 2pm
Cinema Screening
David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) and Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife, Criminal Record) lead a stellar cast in an ‘enthralling’ (★★★★★ Daily Telegraph) new production of Shakespeare’s MACBETH, filmed live at the Donmar Warehouse in London, especially for the big screen. Unsettling intimacy and brutal action combine at breakneck speed as Max Webster (Life of Pi, Henry V) directs this tragic tale of love, murder, and nature’s power of renewal.
With staging ‘full of wolfish imagination and alarming surprise’ (★★★★★ The Guardian), the immersive 5.1 cinema surround sound places the audience inside the minds of the Macbeths, asking are we ever really responsible for our actions?

Heritage Talk: From Dark into Light: A Southside Tale
Thursday 20th February, 1pm to 2.30pm
This talk takes place in Barrhead Foundry.
Join us for a remarkable story, as told by Paul Noble:
“I never imagined that a few ordinary everyday items that I salvaged from under my floorboards (having ignored them for 26 years) would lead me on a detective trail through the streets of Southside Glasgow and beyond.
Resurrected from the depths and bathed in daylight for the first time in many, many years, I resolved to establish the provenance of each item, piece together their history and that of the original owners of my 1930’s Giffnock semi.
These commonplace items turned out to hold the key to opening the gates of the past; they provided me with a remarkable insight into everyday life from the 1870’s to the 1970’s, as seen through the eyes of one ordinary and yet extraordinary Glasgow family.
So, please join me as I discuss the first leg of my investigations into these finds and learn what I now know about my house, its first inhabitants and where the ongoing search for answers has taken me so far on my incredible journey from Dark into Light!”

THE TESTAMENT OF GIDEON MACK
Wednesday 26th February, 7.30PM
by James Robertson, adapted by Matthew Zajac
Dogstar’s vibrant new stage version of James Robertson’s acclaimed novel tells a story of grief and the crisis of faith in our society, channelled through the story of one generous, energetic, perceptive, ashamed and very Presbyterian individual, the Reverend Gideon Mack of Monimaskit. A story of late 20th century Scotland, a story of a minister who doesn’t believe in God. Then he meets the Devil.
The Testament of Gideon Mack is full of humour, provocation and the supernatural, presenting a microcosm of small-town Scotland with a cast of vividly-drawn characters. An ensemble cast of eight actors will evoke Monimaskit’s community as it grapples with Gideon’s revelation that he spent three days with the Devil. Is Gideon a prophet or a man sent mad by grief?
