The main heritage centre is at Giffnock Library where you can access historical information covering the whole of the East Renfrewshire area in a comfortable, modern facility. Resources available onsite include: historical newspapers, microfilm copies of the census for East Renfrewshire 1841-1901 and Old Parish Registers for Eastwood, Mearns and Cathcart parishes, valuation rolls, a local history book collection, a map collection and information files.
Making an appointment
To visit, please make an appointment with the local studies librarian who can discuss your enquiry with you and offer you support with your research. To book an appointment call 0141 577 3872 or contact us by e-mail at localstudies@ercultureandleisure.org. We cannot guarantee access to the centre without an appointment.
Heritage at Barrhead Foundry
There is a collection of resources in Barrhead Foundry Library which concentrates on the Barrhead, Neilston & Uplawmoor areas. Resources available onsite include: historical newspapers, microfilm copies of the census for Barrhead, Neilston & Uplawmoor and the Old Parish Registers for Neilston Parish, a local history book collection, maps and information files.
Barrhead Foundry staff will give you access to resources anytime the library is open but once again, if you think you need a bit more assistance we recommend making an appointment with the local studies librarian, who can discuss your enquiry with you and offer you support with your research.
Heritage at your local library
All of our libraries hold small collections of local history books and materials with Neilston Library having a strong collection relating to the village. Library members can also get free access to Ancestry Library Edition* at Barrhead Foundry, Busby, Clarkston, Eaglesham, Giffnock, Mearns, Neilston and Thornliebank libraries.
